ONE MAN ORATORY
Duration: 2 hours
Branko Milisković, a Serbian performance artist, creates works that combine experience and forms of cabaret art, opera, theatre, photography, architecture, film as well as virtual reality. Milisković uses historical quotations, often political ones, exploring both collective and universal memory. Through precisely profiled and constructed bodies, Milisković introduces us to the field of both known and forgotten emotions. The Song from the Grave [STABAT MATER], is a sharp and poignant, mono oratory that deals with anticipation and agony occurring as we wait for our beloved one to return, referring to Arnold Schoenberg’s half-hour opera ERWARTUNG.
STABAT MATER, a medieval spiritual hymn depicting Mary mourning Christ crucified on the cross, was taken in this performance as a starting concept that shapes a new, contemporary reality in which mother and father figures merge into a highly stylized, androgenic construct, a body in the form of the holy view mourning the suffering of humanity.
